About Miyagase Dam

  • Lake Miyagase Charter

Communities in the Miyagase Dam vicinity have formulated the "Lake Miyagase Charter" in the hope that the facility will be fully utilized to revitalize water resources in the area and become a major visitor attraction. Based on this charter, local municipalities are working with the Kanagawa prefectural government to enhance the environment of Miyagase Dam. In order to conserve the lakefront area as much as possible, three areas have been singled out for improvement as foundations for local promotion.

    Lake Miyagase Charter

Lake Miyagase, built through the combined efforts of many people over a long period, is a dam lake that provides us with drinking water, generates hydro-electricity and prevents areas along the Sagamigawa River and Nakatsugawa River from flooding, thereby ensuring a safe and rich life for us all.
To allow for the construction of the dam, many people were forced to leave their family land and homes to make way for the flooding of the area.
The resulting lake also led to the loss of abundant nature. During the dam's construction utmost efforts were made to reproduce nature in consideration of the people as well as the respective wildlife habitats and vegetation of the area.
Surrounding nature is crucial in that it supplies an invaluable water source for people, provides wild habitats for creatures, and serves as place of recreation and relaxation.
Pledging that we will treasure, protect, nurture and utilize the surrounding nature so it may be handed to the next generation, we have formulated the following Lake Miyagase Charter.

    1. We pledge to treasure the pure water of Lake Miyagase
    1. We pledge to protect the beautiful natural environment of Lake Miyagase
    1. We pledge to nurture and utilize the natural surroundings of Lake Miyagase
    1. We pledge to understand the significance and history of Lake Miyagase and pass down this history to the next generation.

Formulated on April 29, 1998, Assembly for the Formulation of the Lake Miyagase Charter
