Maintaining the Dam
Dam management entails a series of activities conducted round-the-clock to ensure that the objectives of Miyagase Dam, i.e. 1. protecting built-up areas from flooding, 2. securing public water supply, 3. protecting the river environment, and 4. generating electricity, are achieved.
The management of Miyagase Dam is divided into work for managing the dam functions and work for managing the dam facilities. In order for the dam to fully exhibit its functions, it is necessary for each management component to smoothly combine.Gathering Information in Dam Operation
In operating Miyagase Dam, it is necessary to constantly grasp the dam's water storage amount, incoming water flow, and discharge flow. Necessary data concerning water level and rainfall upstream of the dam and water level in the downstream are gathered from the respective observation facilities. Also, conditions in downstream rivers are monitored while grasping conditions of rainfall and water use, referring to rainfall data and long-term forecasts of the Meteorological Agency.

When increasing the amount of discharge (flood adjustment) from Miyagase Dam, notification is given to related agencies, while information is issued through the dam information display panels, speakers, sirens and other warning equipment to prevent risks. Also, warning vehicles conduct safety patrols.

Information Exchanges with Sagami Dam and Shiroyama Dam
To accurately implement the general (integrated) operation of dams, close collaboration that entails information exchange, etc. is conducted with Sagami Dam and Shiroyama Dam on Sagamigawa River. In this way, fine-tuned operations are conducted to make effective use of water resources.

Management of Miyagase Dam Body
The concrete of Miyagase Dam contains a maze-like network of monitoring corridors. These corridors are connected to the gate operation room, measurement room, etc. inside the dam and are used by operators to conduct patrols and check for any abnormalities.
