    Sightseeing Discharge

The sightseeing discharge conducted at Miyagase Dam consists of a discharge flow of 30m³ per second lasting for up to 6 minutes. Such a mind-boggling water flow creates a dynamic artificial waterfall comprising two roaring streams of white water that relentlessly grow thicker. Spray rises like smoke from the bottom of the river into which these streams plunge. On fine days, the falling water creates a beautiful rainbow. Be sure to experience this magnificent show!

Recommended Spots for Viewing Sightseeing Discharge

There are recommended points for enjoying such grand sightseeing discharge at your leisure.
Since there are lots of visitors on holidays and so on, it is a good idea to secure the ideal viewpoint in advance so that you can fully enjoy the water discharge.

Recommended Spots for Viewing Sightseeing Discharge
On the bridge in front of the dam body

[Viewpoint 1: On the bridge in front of the dam body]
Offering a view of the dam from the front, this is the prime spot for viewing sightseeing discharges. The elegant silhouette created by the falling discharged water harmonizes beautifully with the dam body that appears like a spreading pair of wings. The roaring sound and spray of the water as it touches down generate an amazing presence. However, depending on the wind direction and water level, you could get very wet, so please take care to keep your camera and other belongings dry.

Near the elevator exit on the dam body

[Viewpoint 2: Near the elevator exit on the dam body]
This is directly underneath the dam. This is the closest viewpoint to the spillway. When you look upwards from here, Miyagase Dam rises like a vertical cliff face. Once the immense water discharge begins, you may feel like the water is going to engulf you from above. This viewpoint affords a diagonal view from below rather than from in front of the dam, however, the sheer scale of the discharge will still overwhelm you.

    Shin-Ishigoyabashi Bridge

    [Viewpoint 3: Shin-Ishigoyabashi Bridge]
Since this viewpoint is located some distance away, it doesn't offer the same power as the other viewpoints, however, you can fully enjoy the sightseeing discharge in combination with the beautiful scenery of Miyagase. Moreover, because you can compare the scale of the dam with the bridge and other spectators and so on, this viewpoint is an excellent spot for appreciating the grand scale of the dam and the water discharge.

Also use the Incline Lift while Seeing the Sightseeing Discharge

    Miyagase Dam incline

Miyagase Dam incline is an inspection facility installed on the outside of the dam body for maintenance purposes. An elevator has been installed utilizing part of the dump truck incline that was used during construction, and this is also used for conducting hands-on learning about the dam.
