  • Utilization of Miyagase Dam

Guide to Use of Miyagase Dam

Since rivers are public spaces, in principle anybody is free to use them. This is referred to as "free use" (sightseeing, strolling and so on). Miyagase Dam can also be freely used. However, that does not mean that people are free to do whatever they like. Please uphold manners to ensure that no trouble is caused to other users.

The following activities are prohibited at Miyagase Dam. Please display ample caution.

    • Riding around the dam body on a bicycle (please alight from your bicycle and walk)
    • Flying of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones, remote-controlled aircraft, etc.) *See below
    • Entry to areas of precipitous terrain (there is risk of falling into the reservoir)
    • Use of fire
    • Letting dogs run free (Kanagawa Prefecture Ordinance on Protection and Management of Animals)
    • Giving food to wild animals

Even if a person may think "I am paying attention to safety in use" or "I'm not causing any trouble", there are occasions others may feel at risk or troubled. When using Miyagase Dam, please display ample consideration in avoiding behavior that may cause trouble or harm.

Concerning flying of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones, remote-controlled aircraft, etc.) around Miyagase Dam

Some areas around the reservoir of Miyagase Dam are open to the general public, and many people like to go strolling or do sightseeing in these places. A crash by an unmanned aerial vehicle in this place could be very dangerous.
Moreover, there are important structures and areas of hazardous terrain that are prohibited from entry around the dam reservoir. If an unmanned aerial vehicle goes down in such places, it cannot be retrieved.
The water of Miyagase Dam is a vital water resource for Kanagawa Prefecture. There is a risk that a falling unmanned aerial vehicle could impart a negative impact on the water quality, discharge facilities and so on.
For these reasons, flying of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones, remote-controlled aircraft, etc.) as a rule is prohibited around Miyagase Dam.

However, flying for the following purposes is possible.

    1. When the national government, a local public authority, police, fire department or someone consigned by these agencies conducts flying for search or rescue purposes in the event of an accident or disaster, etc. (training is also applicable, but advance notification is needed in such cases)
    2. When the press conducts shooting of an accident or disaster, etc.
    3. When a river manager conducts shooting, etc. for river management purposes

Also, flying is possible in cases where all the following conditions are satisfied. Please consult in such cases:

    • The flying is not performed as a hobby or for practice or testing, etc. by an individual or group
    • It is deemed that the recorded images will be used as learning resources or for some other objective that benefits the public
    • A safety plan that is in conformance with the aviation law, related legislation and guidelines for the safe flying of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones, remote-controlled aircraft, etc.) has been compiled
